Brake Shoe Re-Bonding - Australia

Brake Shoe Rebonding
Brake shoe rebonding is a process used to restore worn-out brake shoes by replacing the old, worn friction material with new lining material instead of buying completely new shoes. It is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly method commonly used in automotive, industrial, and heavy-duty vehicle applications.
The process begins by cleaning and inspecting the old brake shoes to ensure they are structurally sound and free from cracks or excessive wear. The old friction material is then removed, and the shoe surface is prepared—usually by sandblasting—to ensure proper adhesion. A special high-temperature adhesive is applied to bond the new friction material (brake lining) onto the shoe. The assembled unit is then cured in an oven under controlled heat and pressure to achieve a strong and durable bond.
After curing, the rebonded brake shoes are machined and ground to precise specifications to ensure correct fitment and contact with the brake drum. Quality control tests are performed to verify the strength of the bond and the performance of the lining.
Rebonding helps extend the life of brake shoes, reduces waste, and provides a reliable braking solution when done by certified workshops following safety and quality standards.
